Dua Lipa sues Samsung in a bombshell federal lawsuit after the tech giant allegedly used her copyrighted photo on TV packaging without permission. The Grammy winner is seeking major damages.
Samsung reportedly placed Dua Lipa's photograph on cardboard packaging for Samsung TV Plus starting in 2025. The marketing move was made without any licensing agreement or permission from the pop star.
The disputed photograph was taken backstage at Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. Dua Lipa owns the copyright to this image, which Samsung allegedly used without obtaining any license.
When Dua Lipa discovered the unauthorized use in June 2025, she demanded Samsung stop immediately. The lawsuit claims Samsung was dismissive and callous and continued the campaign anyway.
The lawsuit cites social media posts from consumers saying the packaging influenced their purchase. One wrote: I was not even planning on buying a TV but I saw the box so I decided to get it.
