Rachel Zegler's 2026 Met Gala look was directly inspired by Paul Delaroche's 1833 masterpiece The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, one of the most famous paintings in art history.

Atelier Prabal Gurung designed the gown to capture the painting's themes of beauty and sacrifice. The white silk blindfold represented Lady Jane Grey's blindfold before execution.

Supporters argue her facial expressions were intentional — showing the juxtaposition between a beautiful costume and the pain it represents, perfectly aligned with the Costume Art theme.
